e-Sports is in its purest form, competitive gaming, or playing video games competitively. Imagine your favorite sports league - the NFL, MLS, the NHL, the NBA, etc. They all play a traditional sport competitively. e-Sports is similar to professional sports as a whole. The difference - its all rendered on a computer screen, and you are seemingly just pushing buttons as fast as you can to do different things. Now take different video games - Fortnite, Overwatch - you get the picture. Those are your different sports. Someone who plays Fortnite isn't necessarily good at Overwatch - just like how football star Gronkowski probably can't really play ice hockey - and if he can, on nowhere near the same level. But what it all boils down to is that e-Sports is like other sports - just that the main activity is gaming.
